Student Supports Overview
In Great Valley, we provide services to support each student’s mental wellness and academic success. We aim to work with students, teachers, and families to remove barriers to learning and progress in school. Our clinical professionals have advanced education and training in areas of mental health and learning. They are focused on prevention, including building internal and external protective supports for students. They are also available to respond when students are struggling with anxiety, depression, school stress, peer issues, family issues or other stressors.
The Clinical Services Team
School Counselors
School Counselors are certified educators with an advanced degree in counseling who are specially trained to help all students apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, and plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, work force).
School Social Workers
School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a graduate degree in social work. School social workers serve as a link between the home, school, and community. They provide direct and indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to promote and support students’ academic and social success.
Mental Health Specialists
Mental Health Specialists are trained mental health professional who hold the credential of a license as Social Worker (LCSW) or Professional Counselor (LPC) or other advanced training in mental health. Our MH specialists provide individual counseling, group support, preventative supports, and crisis intervention for students.
School Psychologists
School Psychologists are school team members with advanced degrees and certification who are trained to support the student's ability to learn and the teacher’s ability to teach. They have expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior. Our psychologists provide consultation to school personnel and parents and evaluate students to assess their need for formalized (special education) support in school.
Related Services Specialists
Speech Therapists
Speech Therapists are highly qualified and trained to help students with a wide range of speech-language problems, including speech sound disorders, expression and reception (understanding) of language and using language in social situations (pragmatic language).
Occupational Therapists
Occupational Therapists are uniquely trained to use meaningful activities to help students participate in what they need and/or want to do in order to promote school success. These activities may include fine and visual motor tasks, handwriting, daily living and self-care activities, play/leisure and self-regulation.
Physical Therapists
Physical Therapists are trained to help students who have physical disabilities that affect their motor skills, balance or endurance so that they can access their school program.
